Weston Jesuit School of Theology
About WJST

Weston Jesuit trains men and women at the graduate level for leadership, both in the Roman Catholic Church and the world. As a comprehensive school of theology, we educate lay ministers and priests side by side, equipping them for service in universities and secondary schools, parishes and dioceses, campus ministries and chaplaincies, social outreach and service. Our graduates are found in virtually any environment that can benefit from the skills, insight, and compassion of scholars versed in the Jesuit tradition.

With an ecclesiastical faculty, Weston Jesuit is one of only seven schools in North America approved by the Vatican to grant the degrees that professors must hold to teach in Catholic seminaries. The school plays a vital and essential role in sustaining the rich legacy of Jesuit education and Ignatian spirituality – a tradition that has endured for more than 450 years.

At the same time, Weston faces resolutely forward – addressing the complex spiritual and social issues that influence the Church’s growth and evolution. Our ministry and our student body is truly global in character; in recent years, we have prepared men and women from more than 32 nations for service in more than 90 countries throughout the world.

"Students, in the course of their formation, must let the gritty reality of this world into their lives, so they can learn to feel it, think about it critically, respond to its suffering and engage it constructively. They should learn to perceive, think, judge, choose and act for the rights of others, especially the disadvantaged and the oppressed."

Rev. Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J., Superior General of the Society of Jesus
