An international theological center preparing leaders for the Church in the 21st century

The Boston College School of Theology and Ministry, established in 2007, brings together the extensive resources of the Weston Jesuit School of Theology (to be known as the Ecclesiastical Faculty at Boston College) and the Boston College Institute of Religious Education and Pastoral Ministry to prepare both ordained and lay ministers for service to the worldwide Church. The new school, in collaboration with the Boston College theology department, reflects Boston College’s commitment to provide superior theological education and formation for ministry in the United States and around the world.

Boston College is a vibrant Jesuit, Catholic university committed to the highest standards of teaching and scholarship, intellectual development, and personal formation, as well as the pursuit of a just society. Today BC, with 14,500 students and an endowment of $1.75 billion, is one of America’s most recognized universities, noted for its rise to national prominence in the past four decades. It is among the nation’s most competitive colleges and attracts a diverse and extraordinary student body. While achieving greater academic excellence and institutional stature over the past 40 years, BC has held steadfast to its Jesuit and Catholic heritage, continuing to educate both the mind and the heart, and, more than at any time in history, offering a wide range of opportunities for religious and personal development.

VISION

Boston College’s School of Theology and Ministry (STM) offers its students outstanding opportunities for comprehensive graduate theological education and spiritual formation for ministry. Boston College’s Institute of Religious Education and Pastoral Ministry (IREPM) and the Ecclesiastical Faculty, both renowned for the preparation and renewal of priests, vowed religious, and lay people for ministry, will form the key units of an exciting new Boston College professional school. Their distinctive ethos and celebrated traditions unite within a national and international Catholic university to provide a comprehensive array of academic, theological, spiritual, and pastoral courses for ministry, academic specialization, and continuing education in faith. Beyond the offerings of the school, students may also cross-register for courses in the Boston College Department of Theology and in the seven other schools of the Boston Theological Institute.
