Word and Worship

Most people who study theology do not end up as writers or teachers. They work as ministers in the Church for the Church. They express theology in the ritual forms of the tradition: Eucharist, preaching, leading a community in sacrament and celebration, and in various ways of spreading the Good News.

The theoretical and practical tools taught in Word and Worship enable both the ordination candidate and the lay minister to craft and vitalize moments where theology and practice meet. Theology is lived in liturgical practice. It comes alive in liturgical worship. Courses in preaching, ritual studies, and sacramental liturgical theology present the history, theology, and practice of the Church at prayer. They provide the skills required for liturgical worship: the theory and practice of the liturgical and pastoral arts. School events, like community liturgy and reconciliation services, give students aiming for priestly ordination, the diaconate, or lay ecclesial ministry excellent experiences to enhance their ministerial skills and at the same time contribute to the life of Weston Jesuit’s community.
