Weston students come from all over the United States, as well as from 38 other countries. Our international students are laymen and laywomen, male and female religious, Jesuits, and diocesan priests who all share one thing in common: a desire to serve the needs of the global Church. If you are applying from outside the US, you should follow the same procedures and timetables as American candidates. There is, however, some special information for students applying from abroad.
Weston Jesuit only admits students who possess an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. An undergraduate degree refers to a four or five-year post-secondary program. Applicants from non-liberal arts backgrounds, such as medicine, engineering, science, or business administration, are advised to take a year of coursework in philosophy and theology prior to applying.
Weston Jesuit requires that applicants submit original copies of all post-secondary coursework (transcripts). Transcripts must include grades and an official school seal. All applicants from non-English-speaking countries must present evidence of English proficiency. Weston Jesuit only accepts TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test results. Additionally, international applicants with no post-secondary coursework (graduate studies) are advised to consider taking the GRE (Graduate Record Examination).
Weston Jesuit does not issue visas. We process the I-20 document required by US embassies, which in turn grant F-1 student visas. Weston Jesuit will not issue an I-20 form until an applicant has been formally accepted and has confirmed his or her intention to enroll. International students should plan on applying by the application deadlines, in order to facilitate visa processing if accepted.
International Students and Financial Aid
Weston Jesuit strives to offer financial aid in the form of tuition scholarships to several international students every year.
Defreitas Scholarship – Weston Jesuit offers full- and partial-tuition scholarships. Applicants must be international students who plan on enrolling in either the M.Div., Th.M., S.T.L., or S.T.D. programs, and who plan to return to ministry in their home countries.
These scholarships are competitive. Please keep in mind that applicants who do receive a full tuition scholarship must still demonstrate the ability to secure at least US$6,000 annually for other varied expenses.
