Degree Admissions Requirements
All applicants for degree programs should manifest a high level of intellectual, social and religious maturity, and should possess a bachelor’s degree.   Each program has specific requirements, therefore you should also review your program of interest and its program specific admissions requirements.
 
Applicants for the M.T.S and M.Div. must demonstrate strong academic achievement with above-average grades from an accredited undegraduate institution. All applicants seeking to apply for the Th.M., S.T.L., and S.T.D. programs must also possess an advanced degree in theology. Specifically, Th.M. applicants must possess the M.Div. degree or its equivalent in credit hours and course distribution with a 3.3 GPA. S.T.L. applicants must possess the S.T.B. degree or its equivalent in credit hours and course distribution, with a 3.5 GPA. S.T.D. applicants must possess the S.T.L. degree with a 3.7 GPA.

The Office of Admissions strongly encourages an in-person or telephone conversation with all prospective applicants during the application process, so that we may better assist you in determining your plans for graduate study at a theology school.

REQUIRED ADMISSIONS DOCUMENTATION
 
All applicants seeking admission as M.Div., M.T.S., M.A., Th.M., S.T.L.,  or S.T.D.must:
  • Complete the Online Application form where you may also upload an essay,  a curriculum vitae and register recommenders.
  • Pay the $50 application fee. (Jesuits are exempt from this fee.)
  • Submit a minimum 500-word personal statement (for M.Div., M.T.S., M.A., or Th.M. applicants).  The statement should address: family background, plans for applying your theological education and why you are applying to Weston Jesuit.  Additionally applicants for the M.A., M.Div. and Th.M. must also address how one understands ministry in the context of the Church's mission and the principal strengths and areas of needed development from a  ministerial perspective.
  • Submit the S.T.L. essay (for S.T.L. applicants only). This is a statement of at least 600 words, addressing the following topics: Why you would like an ecclesiastical degree from Weston Jesuit. How your previous academic training and pastoral experience have prepared you. How you plan to apply your S.T.L. degree. Which theological themes you intend to address in your S.T.L. thesis.
  • Submit a resume or curriculum vitae.
  • Submit the Course Abstract form (not required for S.T.D., which is available as part of the online application
  • Submit an approval letter from your superior - If you are a member of the Clergy or Religious Order, download and submit a letter of approval for studies at Weston Jesuit from your superior or bishop.
  • Submit transcripts – Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools attended, including those that did not lead to a degree. All foreign transcripts must be in English, or must be accompanied by an official English translation of the original records. Transcripts must be sealed and mailed directly to the Office of Admissions.
  • Submit test scores – Applicants are encouraged to submit scores of the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). The Admissions Committee requires scores from applicants not already in possession of a graduate degree or graduate credits. The institutional code for reporting the GRE to Weston Jesuit is 3971.
  • Submit recommendations - Register three recommenders using the online application, or download and have your recommendors mail paper copies to the Weston Jesuit Admissions Office - see below.
  • If you have not already done so, contact the Admissions Office to introduce yourself. Please be aware that we encourage our applicants  either to attend a visiting day or to schedule a campus visit or phone conversation with the Office of Admissions. Admissions interviews are usually conducted once you have formally applied.
RECOMMENDATIONS

Three letters of recommendation are required; at least two should be from academic sources who are familiar with the applicant's academic qualifications. These sources should preferably be from the institution that the student most recently attended. If the applicant has not been enrolled in an educational program for an extended period, recommendations may be solicited from employers, professional colleagues, or other community or church leaders.

For M.Div., Th.M., S.T.L., or S.T.D. applicants, at least one of the recommendations should come from a ministerial colleague. Applicants to the M.A. in Spiritual Direction program should arrange for at least two recommendations from persons who can comment on the applicant's work in a one-on-one ministry environment, and/or who worked with the applicant in a supervisory capacity.
SUPPLEMENTAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
 
M.A. (Spiritual Direction) Applicants
S.T.D. Applicants
  • The S.T.L. thesis, or a major research paper from the S.T.L. program that conveys the student’s capabilities in research and writing.
  • S.T.D. letter of intent - The letter of intent should name the area (Systematic Theology, Ethics, Word and Worship, Missiology, the Christian Spiritual Tradition) and the field (Christology, Ecclesiology, Patristics) which the student wishes to study. Such a letter should include the person or persons on the faculty with whom the applicant would like to work. The letter must also specify the service in the church that one would render with the S.T.D. degree, why you are applying to Weston Jesuit and how your previous pastoral and academic experiences have prepared you for the S.T.D.
Diocesan Priests and Vowed Religious Letter of Support
All priests and religious from a Roman Catholic order must obtain a letter from their bishop or superior indicating their awareness and support of the candidate’s studies in any degree or non-degree program at Weston Jesuit.

APPLICATION DEADLINES
 
Fall Enrollment
Those seeking admission to all degree programs should complete their application files by February 15 preceding the fall in which they hope to begin. Applicants who require financial aid should be especially careful to apply by the February 15 deadline.  Applications received after February 15 are handled on a rolling basis, but keep in mind that scholarships become limited for later applications. Final acceptance to any degree program is not guaranteed for any applicant.

Spring Enrollment
Initial enrollment in the spring semester is also possible; spring applications should be submitted by November 1. Applicants who require housing and/or financial aid for the spring semester should also apply by the November 1 deadline. Please be aware that spring financial aid and housing is more limited.
