A special invitation to all Weston Jesuit alums to attend a Farewell Open House and Reception on Thursday, April 10, 2008, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 3 and 5 Phillips Place in Cambridge. Come reminisce with faculty, staff and other alums as Weston Jesuit prepares to take its leave from the EDS campus and move to BC's Brighton campus. | 2007-2008 LECTURE SERIES |
In its continuing efforts to make the study of theology more accessible, Weston Jesuit is once again sponsoring its annual lecture series. The lectures are free and open to the public. All lectures will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be held in Room 3A of the Weston Jesuit/EDS library on the campus of Episcopal Divinity School, 99 Brattle St., Cambridge, Mass. The schedule is as follows: Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007 -- The Gretchen Reeves Kelley Lecture: "All My Eyes See: Icons Ancient and Contemporary" by William Hart McNichols, nationally known artist, illustrator and iconographer. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007 -- "The Point of Exegeting Scripture is Exegeting Life" by Luke Timothy Johnson, R.W. Woodruff Professor of New Testament and Christian Origins at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007 -- "Exploring the Systematic Theology of Benedict XVI" by Philipp Gabriel Renczes, S.J., of the Gregorian University in Rome. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008 -- "A More Evangelical Catholicism? Thoughts on the Current Situation of the U.S. Catholic Community" by Mark Massa, S.J., Karl Rahner Distinguished Professor of Theology and co-director of the Curran Center for American Catholic Studies at Fordham University in New York. Thursday, March 13, 2008 -- "God's Body" by Nancy Mairs is the featured 2008 Pyne Lecture. The author of eight books, Nancy Mairs was raised as a Congregationalist in New England and converted to Catholicism as an adult. Her poems and meditations reflect a life circumscribed by multiple sclerosis. Her writings are used in medical schools in teaching students how to treat and talk with persons of disabilities. Her most recent book is "A Dynamic God: Living an Unconventional Catholic Faith." Thursday, April 10, 2008 -- "Gender, Faith and Responses to HIV/AIDS in Africa" by Margaret Farley, Gilbert L. Stark Professor Emerita of Christian Ethics at Yale Divinity School. Farley's most recent book is " Just Love: A Framework for Christian Sexual Ethics. She is the past president of both the Society of Christian Ethics and the Catholic Theological Society of America. She is currently the co-director of the All-Africa Conference: Sister to Sister, which empowers women religious in responding to HIV/AIDS. |
