Student Life FAQs
HOUSING
Am I guaranteed student housing?
No, but most students who apply for housing get it. Weston Jesuit has a limited amount of housing available for students. Full-time, out-of-state, and lay students who apply for housing have priority in placement at the Harvard Street apartments. Men and women religious enrolled as full-time students or in the sabbatical program have priority at the 15 Hawthorn Street residence.

What is the cost of housing?
Monthly rental rates at Harvard Street are $1000 for a two-bedroom apartment and $700 for a single. Seventeen of the twenty-one units available are two-bedroom apartments. Rent includes heat and hot water. Costs for other utilities vary, but students can plan on roughly $100 per month for phone, cable, electricity, and gas.

Charges for room and board at the Hawthorn Street residence are $1100 per month. Residents share the common areas of the house but have a private room and semi-private bath. All meals and utilities are included in the $1100 monthly rate. Dinner is prepared by a cook Monday to Friday evenings. There is maximum occupancy of 12 residents.

Are the apartments furnished?
Students are guaranteed a bed; otherwise, the apartments are unfurnished. Typically, incoming students communicate with current students before their arrival to determine if any furniture is available for their use.

Are pets allowed in the apartments?
Pets are not generally allowed but exceptions can be made. Students are advised to check with the Dean of Students with questions about this policy.

Is student health insurance available through the school?
Yes. Weston Jesuit students have the option of enrolling in an accident and sickness plan provided by Chickering, a division of the Aetna Life Insurance Company. The annual premium is $1,458.00. Massachusetts requires that all full-time students be enrolled in a qualifying health insurance plan. Students must show proof of insurance coverage before registration for classes.

How can I review the health insurance brochure before enrolling in the School's plan?
For a description of health benefits visit the Chickering Web site at www.chickering.com.  Click on Find Your School. Enter Weston Jesuit School of Theology and click on Policy.

Is there student parking available on the EDS/WJST campus?
Yes. Nine parking spots are reserved for WJST students on the EDS campus, located behind St. John's Hall, an EDS dormitory. Students must obtain a WJST student parking permit in order to park in this area. Since parking is very limited throughout Cambridge, students are encouraged to use public transportation.

Is there a way alumni and friends of WJST can order WJST apparel?
Yes. Students from WJST take orders for WJST apparel in early November. Order forms for WJST polo shirts, T-shirts and sweatshirts are available from the Dean of Students.
